Laura Scariano
Laura Scariano was born and raised in New Orleans. Laura’s inspiration is drawn from the culture of her hometown New Orleans, the natural habitat of the delta, her sense of humor, her work in interior design and her experience as a tap dancer with jazz musicians.
Laura Scariano has practiced ceramics since 1995 when she was in Penn’s Design program. There she learned the basic principles of working with clay and how to hand build large ceramic sculptures.
In 2001 she took a course in glaze chemistry with Peter Lane at Greenwich House Pottery. This sparked her interest in making her own glazes and exploring the various combinations of minerals to create beautiful colorful glazes.
Laura learned to throw on the wheel mainly from Larry Stern and Nadeige Choplet at the Union Square Ceramics Center in New York. She continued to develop her skills on the wheel at various community art studios and now works out of her own studio.
Laura sells her work at local art markets and travels to art shows in the Southeast. She is always trying something new, so please check out her Instagram posts for her latest works.
