I am inspired, in our “throw-away” society where planned obsolescence has become a staple of our economy, to meet the greening challenge to reuse and recycle. Being taught from an early age not to waste what I have, whether resources or talents, I am instilled to embrace our Acadian ancestral traditions to “make over and make new.”
As a fiber artist, I implement skills learned throughout my life, using fabric from vintage neck ties combined with embellishments of embroidery, beading, and other attachments. I take inspiration from the colors, textures, and prints of the neck ties, along with my study of design, clothing construction, quilting and mathematics to create functional and decorative pieces. I transform the neck tie into geometric “quilt block” designs, then to handbags, glass cases and unique artworks.
