Sam Wróbel
Paper

Elton, LA

Sam Wróbel is an artist of Polish descent living and working out of rural SW Louisiana. Sam specializes in wycinanki (vee-chee-non-key), the Polish folk art of papercutting. Intricate designs are created with colorful paper, cut with scissors or the old traditional tool, sheep shears. Many pieces are layered for a rich effect. Wycinanki is considered a dying folk art, so Sam works to carry on this gorgeous tradition. Her work is a mix of typical Polish motifs and cuttings inspired by her life in South Louisiana and her travels. She does commission work, teaches art, and sells originals, prints, cards, and gifts featuring her designs.
