Mishell Liberto

St. Bernard, LA

Handmade wearable art with a cupful of New Orleans spicy flair, a heaping tablespoon of cajun seasoned color and a whole handful of thought, vivid imagination and personalization for a taste of unique southern style made by a Diva for the Diva in you.

I use mostly organics in my little treasures of art.  Hand gathered black oyster shells from our coast, feathers, acorns and wood from the beautiful oaks on my land, leaves, and just about anything that intrigues my creative bone.  There is much beauty all around us that cannot be overlooked or ignored.  My vision puts these particular pieces at the forefront of my designs.  I like to work with many different mediums.  It is difficult for me to perfect any one in particular because I love change, which is ever constant.  I usually just say, “Lets embrace the chaos shall we.” But this also makes for a true one of a kind piece that will only belong to that one special person.   Things you will see in my pieces include electroforming, polymer clay, mixed metals, precious metals, handmade ceramics, Lampwork glass, leather, silk, acrylics, inks and stains, refurbishments and organics.  I was told that I chosen by this guild because of my eye for design.  I like that…. I am honored to be among such amazing artisans.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Arabi, La. daughter of famous Jazz Trumpeter Roy Liberto, Mishell began her artistic flight on stage singing with her father at age 8.  Her best classes in high school were her talents, Music and Art and eventually went on to become a successful Cosmetologist for 18 years.  It wasn’t until 2005 after the birth of her only daughter Harmony and Hurricane Katrina that she was forced to pursue another career after her clientele relocated across the lake.  She taught herself by watching, studying, reading, and experimenting on her own while rebuilding her life back in St. Bernard Parish. This proved to be great therapy both mentally and soon financially. She continues to pursue new and creative techniques keeping her designs ever changing and fresh.  She continues to evolve, sing with her band Hit n Run and make the Divas happy with fun and creative hairstyles and jewelry pieces.
