My paintings depict scenes from everyday life here in Louisiana. These moments so often feel wonderfully filled with the presence of something sacred. Having spent much of my childhood and adult career in churches, I take inspiration from stained glass windows and how they transfigure their subject as light reflects through from different angles and perspectives. My brushstrokes indicate the range of emotions in any experience, the differing levels of transparency in the paints and glazes allow for life’s complexity, and my color palette reveals the delight I take in these momentary glimpses of beauty. My paintings attempt to reveal both the intended subject and the deeper truths contained within them.
